I can't believe this is my last post!

Watch out for our killer-theses! Donde esta la resilienca? I don't know. But some may say it's found in social networks and in mapping the state of biodiversity.

Kalk Bay Coffee and Muizenberg Beach

The red flag means that a shark was spotted less than hour ago! But there was a lot of shark biscuits out there anyway.

Harmony Flats Nature Reserve

Today I went to Harmony Flats. Att hitta dit var dock inte så harmoniskt.

Critically endangered Lourensford Alluvium Fynbos is found at Harmony Flats. Unfortunately I took pictures of the alien vegetation. Sorry about that.

Two kids on a horse.

Bracken Nature Reserve

Bracken Nature Reserve used to be a city dump. Now it is on rehab, a conservation site!

Wilting flowers. Vissna blommor är fina.

The person that I was talking to there showed me wild plums. Tasty, but sour.

Peacock! This cute bird is apparently not supposed to be in this environment, it is "alien" and "invasive", so the peacock is not wanted in the nature reserve. But where should it go? And, even if it wants to leave, the fence is kind of in the way.

Rondevlei

I like rain.

Birds at Rondevlei Nature Reserve. Vlei = lake!

A sugarbird! At Rondevlei we met a couple of ecologists who were busy with catching birds in a net (!!).

We went to Rondevlei because hippos live there. Hippos are very shy.

This flower, Erica something, is apparently very special. Endemic, which is a very powerful word.

Imizamo Yethu

Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay. I met a rainy little dog.

It has been a couple of cold and rainy days in Cape Town. And some roofs of these houses was taken by the heavy winds.

Shebeen (bar).

M-berg surf!

Hoerikwaggo, Table Mountain, Tafelberg!

Walking up Platteklip Gorge on the City Bowl side of the Table Mountain.

Some flowers along the way up!

After 1, 5 hours I reached the top. Helt fantastisk utsikt alltså!

City Centre of Ikapa, Kaapstad, Cape Town!

Took the cableway down. A bit lazy maybe, but pretty cool! An older Swedish couple next to me seemed a bit nervous 'Oj, vad fort den åker!'

Valar!

Igår såg vi valar söder om Camps Bay. 3 whales were playing in the water, and we even heard them talk! So beautiful!

Macassar Costal Week

Costal week at Macassar Dunes (about 15 minutes east from Muizenberg). A bunch of school kids, Marnie and me learnt about marine ecosystems.

Rock with sea anemones!

Found a lot of species; sea urchins, starfish, crabs, kelp. However, I was just a bit lost trying to understand what to look for.

Kite

Me and Marnie, and a bunch of children, visited a Kite festival just outside our apartment a while ago.

Yes, it's cute!

Edith Stephens Wetland Park!

Marnie, Aaron and me visited Edith Stephens Wetland Park yesterday. Marco, that day working with clearing of allien species (hyacinths) in the wetlands, showed us around. It was amazing!

We met this little redlisted kameleont in the park. När den blir nervös och känner sig rädd ändrar den färg till mörkgrön/svart.

The Cape Flats Nature's main office. Cape Flats Nature is a partnership project between the City of Cape Town, the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the Table Mountain Fund and the Botanical Society of South Africa. It aims to create a people centered practice of protecting biodiversity so that the surrounding townships benefit. And at Edith Stephens Wetland Park, in the middle of marginalised communities, is were it all started. My thesis focus on the implementation process surrounding the Cape Flats Nature project.

In the backyard

It feels as if I live on the beach. This is our backyard. 7 am this morning me and Marnie went for a run here (yes, it is true!) just before going to the university of Cape Town.

You find nice stuff in our backyard too. There is a lot of salty sea dogs around. I like dogs. There is also a fish n' chip place called 'the salty sea dog' which I think is sweet.

Here is an example of a salty sea dog taking a break from the beach.

Here is a road on the beach. It is a bit further east of our backyard in Muizenberg. But still, it is on the beach. It easily gets covered by sand, so from time to time the road has to close down in order to remove the sand. Mm, infrastructure planning!

Mind the gaps

Social, Environmental and economic injustice.

Birthday penguins!

African penguins at Boulders beach. Dom är nästan våra grannar, vi bor 30 minuter härifrån. Ibland rymmer pingvinerna. Tänk: "Älskling, det är en pingvin i vår trädgård igen!" Ha!

"Baboons, baboons!" A group of people behind us screamed of excitement. But me and Marnie almost peed our pants when a whole baboon-family passed us on the trail in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.

I'm in Muizenberg

This house in the suburb Muizenberg is my home for the next two months.

Some sculptures in our neighbourhood. I like sharks. And, since Muizenberg is the surfers' corner of Cape Town I might even get the chance to meet some.
This is our train station. Beautiful!
